Gmail example after google disabling SSL v3

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

Hi all,

according to this post from google:

They have disabled SSLv3 and RC4 which is used in CC3200 SDK email example.

According to the post from google above, they are moving to TLS 1.2, and chiper suite TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 , which the later unfortunately is not in the list of chiper suite available in socket.h

Is there any other way to make the CC3200 email example working now?

Thanks

  • Hi,

    Good question. I am also interested. If you will contact R&D directly, please let me know.

  • Let me check with the R&D team and get back. It seems, we support, TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 in R2 (next generation CC32xx), which is to be released later this year.

    Thanks
  • I am informed about state of next gen but information about chipers is new for me. Actually I am not happy from that. But this is thing which we can't publicly discuss.

  • Hi,

    at the moment, I found a workaround by setting the following in UARTCommandHandler() function:

            case UART_COMMAND_EMAIL_SEND:
            {

                // reset Orange LED state
                GPIO_IF_LedOff(MCU_SENDING_DATA_IND);
                // TODO: If no destination email given, default to hardcoded value
                SlNetAppEmailOpt_t eMailServerSetting;

                lRetVal = Network_IF_GetHostIP(GMAIL_HOST_NAME, &eMailServerSetting.Ip);
                if(lRetVal >= 0)
                {
                    eMailServerSetting.Family = AF_INET;
                    eMailServerSetting.Port = GMAIL_HOST_PORT;
                    //eMailServerSetting.SecurityMethod = SL_SO_SEC_METHOD_SSLV3;
                    //eMailServerSetting.SecurityCypher = SL_SEC_MASK_SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5;
                    eMailServerSetting.SecurityMethod = SL_SO_SEC_METHOD_TLSV1_2;
                    eMailServerSetting.SecurityCypher = SL_SEC_MASK_SECURE_DEFAULT;
                    lRetVal = sl_NetAppEmailSet(SL_NET_APP_EMAIL_ID, \
                                            NETAPP_ADVANCED_OPT, \
                                            sizeof(SlNetAppEmailOpt_t), \
                                            (unsigned char*)&eMailServerSetting);
                    ASSERT_ON_ERROR(lRetVal);
                }

    Setting to TLS 1.2 and using SL_SEC_MASK_SECURE_DEFAULT, I managed to sent out the email.

  • hi Leo,

    Did you make any add additional changes to make it work. I am using CCS 7.0 and CC3200_SDK_1.2 with your changes to email demo from above and still getting:

    Cmd#05

    Get Host IP succeeded.

    Host: smtp.gmail.com IP: 64.233.185.109

    Connection with Email Server Failed, Check Internet Connection and Retry

    In addition to changes you made, I also modified:

    long SetDefaultParameters(void)
    {

        SlNetAppEmailOpt_t eMailServerSetting;
        eMailServerSetting.Family = AF_INET;
        eMailServerSetting.Port = GMAIL_HOST_PORT;
        eMailServerSetting.Ip = SL_IPV4_VAL(74,125,129,108);
    //    eMailServerSetting.SecurityMethod = SL_SO_SEC_METHOD_SSLV3;
    //    eMailServerSetting.SecurityCypher = SL_SEC_MASK_SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5;
        eMailServerSetting.SecurityMethod = SL_SO_SEC_METHOD_TLSV1_2;
        eMailServerSetting.SecurityCypher = SL_SEC_MASK_SECURE_DEFAULT;

    Thanks
