CC3200MODLAUNCHXL: Email application example issue: connection with Email server failed

Part Number: CC3200MODLAUNCHXL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

Hi everyone!

I'm stuck with one issue concerning the email application example code included  in the CC3200 SDKs.

I have carefully followed and reviewed all the instructions stated at the documentation and everything seem to be all right.

In fact, if I build and run any other internet applications such as wlan_station or get_time I can confirm that the launch pad boards can easily connect with external internet servers such as ti.com or other.

However, and after correctly configuring the demo_config.h macros with my SMTP server parameters (HOST_NAME, HOST_PORT, USER, USER_RFC, PASS,...) I get a failure message at the end of the procedure, as you can see at the below attached dialog captured from the serial console:

Of course, and as I mentioned before, I can check positively that internet connection is properly active and available.

Any suggestion that can help me in this issue would be very much appreciated.

  • Hi Inaki,

    I'm working on testing the example to see if I can replicate the issue. Please give me a day for further response.

    Can you confirm that you are using the latest SDK (v1.2), the latest Service Pack (v1.0.1.6-2.7.0.0), what device version you are using, and whether it is a Launchpad?

    Best regards,
    Sarah
  • Hi Sarah,

    thanks a lot for your reply.

    I can confirm you the versions we are currently using:

    • SDK: CC3200SDK-1.2.0-windows-installer
    • Service Pack: CC3x00ServicePack-1.0.1.6-2.7.0.0-windows-installer
    • target device: CC3200MODLAUNCHXL, REV.015

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Inaki,

    I'm seeing the same issue that you are, so I am working to find the cause. This is an older example, so the authentication protocols may have changed for gmail or yahoo since last tested.

    In the meantime, can you take a look at this E2E thread and see if their fixes work you?

  • Dear Sarah,

    thank you for your reply.

    Just to let you know that we tried to make it work using our own SMTP server, as you can see in the below attache code of the demo_config.h, with negative results:

    //All SMTP defines (SMTP server owned by ISURKI)
    #define SMTP_BUF_LEN 100
    #define GMAIL_HOST_NAME "cp71.webempresa.eu"
    #define GMAIL_HOST_PORT 25
    #define USER "imutuberria@isurki.com" //Set Sender/Source Email Address
    #define USER_RFC "imutuberria@isurki.com" //Set Sender/Source Email Address
    #define PASS "XXXourcurrentlyactivpasswordXXX" //Set Sender/Source Email Password
    #define RCPT_RFC "imutuberria@isurki.com" //Set Recipient Email Password
    #define EMAIL_SUB "Kaixo Simplelink-etik!"

    Best regards,

  • Dear Sarah,

    final and fortunately we have solved the issue using the next security configurations suggested in the link of your last mail, instead of those included in the original example code:

    eMailServerSetting.SecurityMethod = SL_SO_SEC_METHOD_TLSV1_2;
    eMailServerSetting.SecurityCypher = SL_SEC_MASK_TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA;

    Besides, it was also necessary to change some security settings at the gmail sender account; otherwise the server would reject the sending action just in case. This Gmail security modification supossed to change from the default security to a lower level security setting.

    With these two actions we are able to send mails from either the SW3 pushbutton or from the serial console.

    Best regards and thank a lot for your interest.

  • Hi Inaki,

    Thank you for posting your result! I'm glad you were able to get it working.

    I did not try changing the settings in Gmail. It seems that's what I was missing. I will make sure this gets added to the example documentation.

    Best regards,
    Sarah
  • Hello Sarah,
    I tried the above but I'm still getting the" Connection with Email Server Failed, Check Internet Connection and Retry" error.
    I use SDK 1.3 and ccs 7.0 I tried with SW3 as well as UART. In SW3 I'm getting the above error

    In UART mode, I got the error GetHostIP not found after trying #05. I'm using gmail with port 465. Tried 587 and 25 as well.

    Please help,
    thanks
