AFE49I30EVM: Ask AFE49I30EVM TEST

Part Number: AFE49I30EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE49I30, TPS63050,

Currently AFE49i30 EVM TEST is in progress.
After creating the CFG file in Excel, I imported it in the software, and the capture value is displayed as a graph.
The following questions are asked.

1. What is the meaning of the TIA-3 and TIA-3RAW values? Is this the photodiode output value?

2. The TIA-3 value is output close to 1.2V. I am wondering if it can be output as 1V by adjusting the RF value or LED current value.

3. Lastly, I am testing to find out the PPG output value in the software, and I would like to know if the LED count can be checked in the software.

  • Hello Lee,

    Welcome to TI e2e forum!

Thanks for reaching out regarding AFE49I30.

We would like to take this discussion offline since the device AFE49I30 is under NDA.
Can you send your questions to biosensing_afe-support@list.ti.com along with a reference to this E2E post?

  • Hello. I asked a question last week,

but there was no answer. I send you a question again

    I have an additional question.

The task I'm currently testing is trying to find out if the HRM Sensor I've made works well. And now I have connected my HRM Sensor to the AFE49i30 EVM.

It is difficult to explain in detail here how my HRM sensor was designed, but this sensor contains the IC AFE49i30.

    1. If you look at the table below, it is the Phase Definition that I set.

In case of setting like this, creating and importing CFG file,

The TIA-3 value is output close to 1.18V.

I connected drv1 to TX1 to 1 LED, put 10mA, and proceeded the setting according to the table above.

In the above case, LED1 is normally lit, but can we assume that the photodiode received the signal normally and the AFE49i30 in my HRM Sensor received the normal signal?

    external_image

In simple terms, I would like to know whether the HRM Sensor I made is working well.

    2. The TIA-3 value I output from the software is output close to 1.2V.

Looking at the AFE49i30 datasheet page 45, ADC MAX is +-1.2V and TIA MAX is +-1V. If so, is the current TIA-3 value to be viewed with ADC MAX?

I think the TIA-3 value seems to be TIA MAX, but the TIA MAX value is +-1V in the datasheet, If I change the register to make the output value +-1V, should it be considered the normal output?

    3. Can the AFE49i30 EVM measure the LED Count of the LEDs in my HRM Sensor?

  • Hello Lee,

I have replied to your queries directly to your email.

I will close this post for now.

  • Thank you for answer. I'll give you more questions.

This time, I would like to ask a question regarding the AFE49i30 EVM BOARD components.

I am working on the design of the AFE49i30 EVM BOARD,

I want to know if there is any problem with the board operation even if I change it to another one of the components.

    Question.

    1. There are U1, U7 and U6 parts on the AFE49i30 BOARD.

Looking at the BOM, U1 is TPS63050YFFR

    U6 and U7 are TXB0104YZTR.

    PackageReference of U1 is YFF0012AFAF,

    PackageReference of U6, U7 is YZT0012ACAC.

If you change the package type and make an EVM BOARD, is there any problem with the operation?

The currently desired package type is

U1 would like to change from TPS63050YFFR(YFF0012AFAF) to TPS63050RMWT(RMW0012A).

U6, U7 would like to change from TXB0104YZTR(YZT0012ACAC) to TXB0104RUTR(RUT Package).

Even if I make a board by changing the part package type for U1, U6, U7 as above, please check if there is any problem with the board operation.

    2. When number 1 is possible

    For U1

When changing from TPS63050YFFR(YFF0012AFAF) to TPS63050RMWT(RMW0012A), the DATASHEET of TPS63050YFFR

PIN NAME ILIM1 is B3, but PIN NAME ILIM1 is not in TPS63050RMWT(RMW0012A). So even if I change from TPS63050YFFR(YFF0012AFAF) to TPS63050RMWT(RMW0012A), is it okay to proceed with the design without PIN NAME ILIM1?

DATASHEET is "Only available with DSBGA package, for VQFN package ILIM1 is internally connected to voltage level> VIH" in the comment below PAGE3.

So, in VQFN package, does it matter without PIN NAME ILIM1?

    3.

And the TPS63050YFFR(YFF0012AFAF) only has 1 GND.

When changing to TPS63050RMWT(RMW0012A), I wonder if GND should be connected to 9 pin as well.

  • Hi,

From the AFE perspective, changing the package of the buck-boost converter and the level translator should not affect the operation of the device.

I am not the expert on the device TPS63050 device and I have looped in the applications team of the device to help with your device package related queries.

  • Hi Lee,

ILIM1 is internally connected high at VQFN package. so current limit setting during startup is only two option, refer to the page 14 of datasheet for detail.

other performance is the same as YFFR package.

In VQFN, both pin 2 and pin 9 are ground an should be connected together.

  • Hello.

You sent me snap shots of the PPG signal from your finger with 10mA, 2.5mA LED current.

Looking at the snapshot, I can see the output average 1.29~1.3V in 10mA and 0.48V~0.49V in 2.5mA

In the Rf gain setting and 10mA, it must be output as 1.29~1.3V,

can I assume that the sensor board is working well?

The output value will change every time depending on the RF gain and current value.

What I want to know is what output value must come out for the Sensor Board to work normally.

  • Hello Lee,

I have responded to your questions in the email.

  • Hello Praveen.,

I understood your answer well. But let me ask you some basic questions.

    1. Can you tell me how to set offdac? Once below, you can see the RF gain and LED current setting values that I have set. I'm not sure how to set offdac.

    external_image

    external_image

    2. Secondly, I will briefly explain my sensor board.

On my board, 8 pds are connected to the AFE49i30, and 2 are connected in parallel. You can easily understand by looking at the schematic below

    external_imageexternal_image

And the LEDs are connected to TX1~TX4 as below

    TX1=Green LED1

    TX2=IR LED

    TX3=Green LED2

    TX4=RED LED

First of all, I briefly explained about my board, but the questions I want to ask are as follows.

I'm going to turn on all 4 PDs and turn on two LEDs. If so, I set up as follows. If so, the following output values are displayed

    1) LED 2.5mA, RF=100K

    external_image

    external_image

    2) LED 10mA, RF=100K

    external_image

    external_image

Does this board work well when you look at this output value?

Or what would I do to get a better output?

    Thanks for always answering kindly.

    Regards

    LEE

  • Hello Lee,

I have responded to your questions in the email.

  • Hello Praveen

This project is HRM SENSOR for Samsung Electronics.

We received imformation of AFE49i30 through TI's Korea, and additional information about AFE49i30 software is being provided to you.

We made HRM SENSOR, and we want to know that our HRM sensor works well with TI's AFE49i30 software.

1.As you said, I start first by enabling 1 PD pair and if the signal is small then enable the second PD pair.

I will start the evaluation with the register you sent me.

    2. When I checked the result again, I was curious about the value, so I will ask again.

For example, the TIA-3 and TIA-3-RAW values came out.

In that case, TIA1-3 means 3rd Phase output from 1st TIA in voltage. TIA1-3-RAW means 3rd Phase output from 1st TIA.

    external_image

When I export this value and check the excel file of AFE49I30_CAPTURED_DATA, it comes out as follows.

    external_image

Is this TIA1-3_RAW_Value value you told me a value converting ADC codes from FIFO output?

Or, as the first answer came, I am wondering if I should do the calculations directly in Python.

What I understand is that the calculated process is shown below

and I don't think I need to do the calculation. I did not understand, so I asked again.

    Regards

    LEE

    Hello LEE IKSOO,

    1.      What is the meaning of the TIA-3 and TIA-3RAW values? Is this the photodiode output value?

    ·        TIA1-3 means 3rd Phase output from 1st TIA in voltage.

    ·        TIA1-3-RAW means 3rd Phase output from 1st TIA. Its direct FIFO output of that particular phase and TIA. (unsignedCodesADC)

Calculations used for converting ADC codes from FIFO output is shown below.

TIAx-y–RAW or FIFO output is  unsignedCodesADC  and TIAx-y is voltage.

    2.      The TIA-3 value is output close to 1.2V. I am wondering if it can be output as 1V by adjusting the RF value or LED current value.

    a.      There are multiple ways to reduce the TIA output value. Few recommendations are,

                                                       i.     Firstly check how much offset is contributed by ambient phase. Based on this, understand whether offset correction should be done for ambient or LED phase. Few common tips to reduce the LED phase offset are shown In the following steps.

ii.     Reduce TIA gain by reducing the TIA Rf or/and

iii.     Reduce LED intensity by reducing LED current. (If LED phase offset is dominating compared to ambient phase) or/and

iv.     Use LED offset DAC to subtract the DC current or/and

                                                     v.     Use AACM

    3.      Lastly, I am testing to find out the PPG output value in the software, and I would like to know if the LED count can be checked in the software.

    a.      Question is not very clear. Can you please explain this question in detail.

    Regards,

    Midhun Raveendran
