Hi All

I have questions about changing capture_encode demo in EZSDK 5.03,

Current capture-encode demo support 1080P & 720P capture from TVP7002,

1. if I want to modify capture resolution to 480P, do I need to modify M3 firmware, or just modify capture-encode demo code ?

2. if I wan't to modify capture source from Component to Composite,do I need to modify M3 firmware, or just modify capture-endecode demo code ?

3. if I want to change capture source from TVP7002 to other camera-sensor,do I need to modify M3 firmware, or just modify capture-endecode demo code ?

current M3 firmware is a binary release, does TI will release source code in the future ?

Hi,

Following are answers to your question.

1. Yes you need to modify M3 firmware to support 480P. This is required because TVP7002 driver inside firmware doesn't support 480P capture. Once TVP7002 driver inside firmware support 480P capture, only OMX code will need modification to support 480P capture-encode demo.

2. Yes again, Since TVP7002 driver is controlled by media controller you need to change m3 firmware.

3. If you plan to use capture+encode for your application you can also refer to V4L2 capture driver support with PSP04.01.00.07 release. In that also TVP7002 capture is supported using Linux TVP7002 driver. Whereby you can change the decoder to the one you want to use in your product. Further to support sensor, you need ISS support of DM814x and this is not part of EZSDK as of now. You can contact your TI representative to get ISS driver binary.

TI is not planning to release source code of M3 firmware binary.

Dear Hardik Shah,

Actually, DM8148 can support dual input on the hardware. If I want to use component input and VGA input simultaneously, ask the software architecture of EZSDK_5_03_01_15 whether can do dual input or not.

Hi,

Yes, DM8148 can support dual inputs. But EZSDK, as of now does not support dual inputs on IO expansion card. But yes hardware wise you can support dual inputs.

Dear Hardik Shah,

Thank you so much for the quick reply.

As I know the video portion is handled by M3, so I just can modify the M3 firmware to accept the dual inputs. Is my view right? If yes, can TI provide a patch file to let me refer? If no, please explain the reason why.

Hi,

This is because on IO expansion card, we have TVP5147 for VGA input and SIL1161 for DVI input. We currently dont have drivers on M3 side to support both of these external chips. So we dont have patch to support dual capture as of now on IO expansion card.

if I want to change capture source from TVP7002 to SIL1161 , what should I do? Has the OMX demo already supported this switch?

Hi,

We recently found that SIL1161 cant be supported with DM8168 ES1.1 silicon because of hardware errata advisory 1.1.10. SIL1161 give only discrete sync out and we have errata that basic discrete sync cant be supported on DM8168 ES1.1.

Hardik,

We don't have DM8168EVM but DM8148EVM. Are the dauter boards of the two EVM the same? Does it mean DVI input is not possible for 8148EVM?

Hi,

SIL1161 can be supported on DM1848 evm. But we dont have driver for it in our Media controller binary.

But I am a newbie of this EVM so I still have questions...

If we want the DVI input badly, what do you suggest we can do?

Is it possible to use SIL1161 without any driver? Given the fact that we do nearly "zero" configuration to it but only control the MUX to select DVI input.

If no, do you have the the plan of adding the drive into Media controller binary?

PS: what exactly is the controller binary?

Tim,

I will check if there has been any changes wrt DVI input from the HW and SW driver perspective. meantime, these wiki links may help. To find out what is/isn't supported in any driver associated w/ the EZSDK you can look at the PSP/performance and feature wiki. NOTE, when we mention 'Controller', from the perspective of DM816x or DM814x, there are 2 Cortex-M3 controllers onchip. One is dedicated to the HDVPSS (High Def Video Processing Subsystem) and the other dedicated to the HDVICP (High Def Video Imaging Coprocessor). As you have seen, we do not release the M3 soruce code along w/ the EZSDK. Also note, where we mention PSP, this is the Platform Support Package associated w/ the Linux kernel - think of it as all the drivers for peripherals on device/EVM combo (may be a subset of peripherals, not ALL of them - you have seen this already), also has UBL, u-boot, flash utilities, etc, etc...

Hi,

DVI input is still not supported. But you can try adding it yourself as specs for DVI decoder and app note on how to add new decoder is available.

Can you point to this new App Note? I cannot find it.

I found a few e2e forum posts on the subject and it looks like customers will need access to the M3 source code. Is this correct? Or can they work with only the source which is given in the standard EZSDK?

Hi,

If you want to use OMX for capture than you need to have M3 source code. But this is under NDA. For using V4L2 capture and using decoder other than TVP7002 you dont need M3 source code. Is this still true for the 8168 EVM boards? Has there been any updates on the DM8168's?

Anyone who has a DM8168 EVM’s and would like DVI input this will not work based on the errata mentioned below even if they had the correct driver. True?
