C6A816x and C6A814x Devices

We (TI) have not been clear enough in our communication on these devices.  We have made the decision to simplify our device roadmap for the C6A81xx and DM81xx roadmaps going forward.  What we have done is make the C6A816x and C6A814x devices not recommended for new designs (NRND).

For customers who have existing designs based on C6A816x or C6A814x we request that you migrate these designs to DM8168 or DM8148 respectively which are pin & software compatible.

For new customers not familiar with these devices, we will provide a list of third parties that can be used for support going forward in the next few weeks.

If TI has committed pricing for the C6A816x or C6A814x parts please work with the TI or Distribution Sales teams on pricing as you migrate to the DM8168 and DM8148 devices.

Sorry for the confusion.

  • It would be all right and all good, but you do not consider that the performace of DM816x are lower (DSP running at 1GHz vs C6A816x DSP running at1.5GHz)  and much higher price.

So is true that DM816x and C6A816x are pin and software compatible, but not performace compatible. And those, like us, who have performance boundaries are put in serious trouble from this TI choice.

    best regards
