NDK package TCP and the OMAP-L138 EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

Hi Guys,

I am currently running CCS3.3 and (in the near future) will use an evaluation version of CCS4.2 to try out the lastest version of Network Development Kit (NDK) to try to test a TCP networking functionality on the OMAP-L138 EVM evaluation kit using a C6748 SOM.

At the same time I am trying to put togther a schematic and wanted to know if the connection configuration on the Logic PD C6748 SOM with the LAN8710A-EZK module will be suitable to run the NDK TCP evaluations?

Thanks in advance.

Dan.

  • Hi Dan,

Sorry for the delay. I'm not familiar with the either LAN8710A EZK module so I can't say that I know if it'll work or not without looking at the schematic.

If you have questions/concerns about the OMAP-L138 EMAC? Do you see anything that you are concerned about on the LogicPD SOM?

Another option is to possibly ask the LogicPD Support Line if they know since they are very familiar with the design.

  • Hi Drew,

Thanks for answering. The LAN8710 EZK is the PHY chip used on the C6748 SOM.

I have contacted Logic PD as well. They are unfamiliar with the NDK software offering, so there is the same problem in reverse!

It seems there are many tests for loopback or for micro to micro data interfacing, but I haven't yet received confirmation from someone that the NDK tests for TCP with this setup have been successfully done. I am in a case where I will have to "PCB layout first...ask questions later", but it would be nice to get some level of confirmation first!

I appreciate your interest. If you do hear of someone who has tried this, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Dan.

  • Dan,

That certainly is an interesting answer. Is there any code in the BSP that would be a good reference? TI offers Platform Support Packages written to interface with the IOM Driver model of BIOS, which probably was used in place of any software provided by SMSC, but I'm not sure as I'm not familiar with the PSP drivers.

I did a quick search and noticed the same chip is on the hawkboard. There may be someone on the Hawkboard.org forums that may have used the software providings from SMSC. It's probably not the answer that you are looking for, but it's another resource to quickly check before you send your boards out for fabrication.

  • Hi Drew,

The BSL has some EMAC interfacing demos and there are loopback tests to check this portion of the interface, but it is not clear that these will be adequate for running a TCP stack implementation.

I will have a look on Hawkboard as well.

    Thanks.

I guess we need to close this out so I will call that an answer!

    Dan.
