Hi,

We have prototypes built based on the XAM3359ZCZ and we have problem booting our boards.

Full part number displayed on the device is,

XAM3359ZCZ

IBA0L3W GI

962 ZCZ

When the device is JTAGed the program is placed in an uexpected memory location

My customer has successfully booted the AM3359ZCZ on beaglebones and the CONTROL_MODULE control_status Register (0x44e10040) reads 0x00400317. but how ever on the prototype boards the CONTROL_MODULE control_status Register (0x44e10040) reads 0x00400017.

we note that according to the datasheet bits 8-10 of this register are read only and represent the ‘Device Type’, on the Beaglebone these are set to 011 which according to the datasheet indicates a ‘General Purpose (GP) Device’ whilst on our prototype boards these bits are set to 000 which is a ‘Reserved’ value.

Can you please advise why the two devices are different, differernt device types?
What are the differences between these two devices?
And if the problem that we're having is due to these devices being different how can we solve this problem?

A device type of 0 means the part is defective - it was shipped without the e-fuses being blown correctly. The boot ROM will not boot it.

Hi Steve,

Is there any other register to check to confirm if a chip is defective or not ?

I have a XAM3359ZCZ in GP Device mode (bit 10-8 = 011) in control_status register but it dosen't boot.

There is no activity on pins used by peripheral selected for boot and that pins are configured in mode 7 in conf_<pin>_register).

Could this point be a sign of defective or not "e-fused" chip ?

Hi, a bit of a late response to the forum, but we have a batch of AM3359 ZCZ with identical codes to the original poster and are having problems getting the device to boot from SD card. We do not have access at the moment to JTAG, but can compare the 3359 EVM to our design.

My question is, can we be certain that devices with this batch code are all defective, or do we have to use JTAG to read registers to determine the state of the devices.

I do not want to waste time debugging defective silicon, nor do I want to waste time reworking boards if the silicon is OK.
