SN65LVPE512, is it possible to use instead of SN65LVPE502B

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering SN65LVPE512 instead of SN65LVPE502B.

He was encountered a problem of compliance test of LFPS. SN65LVPE502B

We are introduced SN65LVPE512 instead, but he is worried about replacing.

Because SN65LVPE502B is for device side.

On the other hand, SN65LVPE512 is not described for device side.

Also, the pin description is different between SN65LVPE502B and SN65LVPE512.

Could you please advise?

Is SN65LVPE512 possible to use device side instead of SN65LVPE502B?

Hello Shinichi,

The SN65LVPE512 is a host side re-driver, as you can see on the figure 2 of the datasheet, it has a controller side and a connector side. For your application it is possible to use the controller side as device side. The only down side is that this change may increase the layout complexity, however the customer can invert the lanes polarity if it is needed, since the USB3 protocol supports polarity inversion.

Concern of the customer is it .

It is difficult to change to SN65LVPE512 from SN65LVPE502B.
As you mentioned the layout is complex.

Do you have any other product for device side re-driver instead of SN65LVPE502B?

I want the customer to use TI's re-driver.
Could you please advise?

Hello,

Unfortunately the 502B is the only dual channel re-driver for device side, however the customer can also use two TUSB501 which are single and independent of the implementation (device or Host side).

I understand TUSB501 is available for device side.

I'll recommend it to the customer.

By the way, is TUSB501 OK for LFPS test?

Hello Shinichi,

The TUSB501 has implemented circuitry that fixes the compliance issues from the 502A/B. Therefore it is OK for LFPS test.
