MSP430 Max Temp Operation

What would happen to the MSP430 MCUs when the max operating temperature (85 C) is reached? Will the MCU shutdown?

Thanks,

  • Any behavior when running outside of the Recommended Operating Conditions listed in the datasheet (in this case, above 85C) is not guaranteed and is not recommended. We cannot guarantee that the device will run properly or meet datasheet specs. Different devices may tolerate different conditions or react in different ways due to process variation - we can only guarantee what is in the datasheet when you run inside the spec limit. It is true that in some instances an MSP430 MCU may operate correctly outside of the specified limits, but performance is not guaranteed and such operations are done at the risk of the user

One more note - if you go above not only the recommended conditions (at which point we can't guarantee the device will work) and then also go beyond the absolute maximum ratings in the datasheet, you could actually be permanently stressing your part and effect its long-term reliability.

    Regards,

    Katie
