Tool/software: Code Composer Studio
Hello community,
Resentry, I have buy a new MSP-FET. Today, use it for my developed boarad which using MSP430G2433 or G2533 in simply.
The questioning phenomenon is "In download code time, I get a error message as bellow". When use old MSP-FET430UIF, it does work well.
TI MSP430 USB1/MSP430
Error connecting to the target:
Unknown device
CCS : Version: 9.1.0.00010
MSP-FET : will be Ver.2 or above
Interface type to Device : SBW (same connection of SLAU278ae Firure 2-2 , using Tool-Power )
Ask for community, I was do somthing wlong? and how to fix for this phenomenon? should I be do be do?
Best Regarads, Thank you. ^^;
Hi,
are you trying to program the device by Spy-Bi-Wire or by JTAG interface? Could you please provide us the schematics of the device-debugger connections and supply? Many thanks in advance.
Best regards
Peter
Thank you reply..
Using SBW( Spy Bi Wire) and Just connection of SLAU278ae Firure 2-2 , in Tool-Power ...
Hello,
usually when something is failing, there are reasons for it. In most of the cases it is about the details. That's why I asked for the exact setup. The figure you're referring to leaves quite some details open, as it is applicable to many different devices.
Not knowing about the details, it limits the possibilities on my side to make appropriate recommendations.
1. Is the Test/Vpp pin of the debug interface connected?
2. Did you try just connecting the TCK signal to TEST/SBWTCK of the MSP430?
3. What is the size of C1?
Best regards
Peter
Thank so much, Mr. Peter -san
My name is Yasushi Ogura(Mr.) of NIPPON MECHATRONICS Inc. (SGP Japan Pte.,Ltd : Singapore Gas-turbine Propulsions Pte.,Ltd) in Tokyo.
We are one of a Class-4(highest class) medical equipment manufacture.
I say result first for this issue. By your suggestion #2, It was make it work successfully . But, It would not be FUSE blow, I think.
I appreciate for your very valuable suggestions.
(about suggestion #1) Test/Vpp pin(JTAG #8) was used. It connected to device(G2533,G2433) w/ TCK terminal (JTAG #7 pin).
(about suggestion #2) Just now I was try it. then, I make it! An newer MSP-FET became to be download code into device.
I was disconnect the TEST/VPP(JTAG #8) and bypassed register(R2) from Figure 2-2 schematic circuit.
Then, I can be download code into device in successfully.
(about suggestion #3) C1's size... It is nothing... I'm not installing it. But, A parasitic-capacitance will be exist.
New MSP-FET had not continuous output a power supply, therefor it couldn't use any more instead of a power supply. ^o^;
Any way, I'm say thanks for your suggestions that could to be use now it.
Thank you very much! ^__^
Have you Cd labeled 'Code composer studio VerXX' when you buy new MSP-FET ?
If you have it,I hope you install it and run.
Hello Mr. Kevin Hansson -san
Recentry, I buy MSP-FET at Digi-Key in just simply.
It is no attatch a CD. What is that?
The CCS v.9 is simply downloaded from TI's site.
My PC is Windows 10 Pro 64bit..
It's all .. know about now. ^^;
Mr. Yasushi -san,
thank you very much for the detailed answer and confirmation of the resolution of the problem. The issue you're most probably running into is a timing and signal integrity issue during code download and debugging of the MSP430. This is related to the firmware and HW design of the MSP-FET. Please see the attached pdf for further details on the background.
As stated, this is an assumption. Potentially other factors might be contributing. Looking at your picture, please let me make another suggestion, which might improve the robustness of your debug and code download setup even further. The included cable with MSP-FET is a part of the debugger kit, to allow you easy and quick connection to our target socket boards and some of our experimenter's boards. But as the cable length between the MSP-FET and the MSP430 JTAG pins is critical, and the signals are degrading with increasing distance, it is always a good practice to keep this cable length as short as possible. This means if you do not have a compatible connector to our cable on your PCB, I'd recommend to building your own cable directly from the debugger to your PCB.
Best regards
Hello Mr.Peter Spevak -san ^^y
Oh~! I understand it!
I appreciate for your kind describe a mechanism for today's phenomenon, which is make me understand it.
My using MSP-FET is Version 2.06. It was exactly this phenomenon. Bingo... >__<;
If you can tell me about following question, Pls. let me know aout...?
(1) On this SBW condition (TEST signal of MSP-FET was gone), Can I do FUSE blow? If yes, How it make that?
(2) Can I pop out C1(100pF) inside MSP-FET?
Thank you , say advance... ^^;
