MSP-EXP430FR5739 Experimenter Board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR5739, MSP430FR5739

Hi,

I am interested in buying the MSP-EXP430FR5739 Experimenter Board, I don't have other development boards by Ti and I would like to know if I have to buy other devices to program the microcontroller or the MSP-EXP430FR5739 Kit is a complete solution.

  • Hi,

The MSP-EXP430FR5739 should be released to our TI store pretty soon. This experimenters board will be a complete solution including an onboard programmer and the MSP430FR5739 on the board. You wouldn't need anything else to get started once you get it.

    Regards

    William

  • I just ordered the board and the shipping confirmation lists today as shipping date. Either I'm considered a preferred/privileged customer (but I doubt a human has touched this order so far, to detect this), or it is indeed available.

I hope I'll find the time to play with this new toy, once it arrives :)

  • Hi,

tank you for your help, I'm going to order the board as soon as possible

  • Got my order today. Wow, that was fast, only 38hrs from order to delivery.

I ordered two pieces, teh MSP-EXp430FR5739 fo r$29, which is the experimenters board with internal programmer, and the MSP-FET430U40A, which is a brekout board for the 5739 and comes with a stand-alone FET430UIF programmer (which can also be used on the experimenters board). With $149, it is not as cheap, but maybe more useful once you want to go beyond the experimenters boards capabilities (with its soldered processor).

  • Hi Jens-Michael Gross,

I have placed the order and now I'm waiting for it. I'm in Italy and so I think that it will arrive in one week or so... Please, let me know if you see something that is really impressive...

    Enjoy yourself

  • I just unpacked all the stuff and checked it for completeness. Then I put it into a box where it will stay until I find some time to play with it.

However, the experimenters boiard doe snot have anything spectacular on it. An onboard FET, the socket, two connectors (I guess fthe RF connector for a radio daughterboard), so embuttons and then breakout pins for your experiments. Not much of onboard hardware you'll find in the (more expensive) experimenter boards for other MSPs.

It's however a good starting point for own projects. With the 5438, I started with much less.

The chip itself is impressive: five timers, including 3 TimerB (well, 2 TimerB, but one as TImerB7 would have been better), USCI, RTC, and the fast writes to the FRAM are nice things. For some memory-conmsuming operations (like speec sampling and -recognition) I'd like (much) more FRAM, but it's the first of his kind, so I'm awaiting the things that may follow.

  • Hello,

I have it... Untill now I can just say that It was very simple to make run a simple project that toggles a pin. Now I'd like to test the accelerometer but I can't find online any documentation that shows the schematics and electrical connections, the board is not very complex maybe I can understand the connections by looking at it, however it would be nice to have some documentation... Does someone know any usefull link?

    Tank you

  • Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the FR-EXP board.

We are working on updating the product folder as we speak. Here is a preliminary version of the code and User's Guide.

Please check back next week on teh product folder to download the latest.

  • Hello,

sorry but I actually want to ask a question, I couldn't find that so just posting it in REPLY..

Actually i have been working on my 3rd year engineering project which leads me to one of TI products which is CC3000EM. I want to ask something about FIRST CONFIG TECHNOLOGY.

Do we need this MSP-EXP430FR5739 EXPERIMENTAL BOARD for every or one time use of FIRST TIME CONFIG?

M i able to do it by MSP430 LAUNCHPAD? Because as i know the essential thing is to have MSP430 microcontroller chip which is loaded with required program in it.

    So again soory any inconvenience...

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Naishadh.

  • Hello,

If the firmware is micro-controller agnostic, then I'm sure you will be able to load it into MSP430. However you probably need to find a micro that has compatible flash/RAM.

For questions on this EM the Simple-Link Forum is a better place: http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/f/851.aspx

Please try reposting your question there.
