Free tools for feedback! Beta 2 release of the new MSP430.DLL version 3 (open source & binary) available!

We're glad to announce that the SECOND beta version of the new MSP430.DLL v3 (DLLv3) is available for download as BINARY and OPEN SOURCE packages! It is available on the DLLv3 Wiki page, including installation instructions.

We're eagerly looking for your feedback/experience with the new MSP430.DLL v3. Please provide you feedback to msp430.dllv3@ti.com. The first five users who provide valuable feedback will receive a free eZ430-Chronos kit!

Additional information:

What's new compared to the previous beta?

Supports all current MSP430 derivatives now (see full release notes on the DLLv3 Wiki page). Besides this, eZ430 and LPT interfaces are supported and the MSP-FET430UIF update was improved significantly. Additional features and bug fixes have been implemented.

Should I use the MSP430.DLL v3?

If you are an experienced user and are interested to provide feedback to help TI improve their tool chain you should definitively try out the this beta! Please note that there are limitations i.e. not all MSP430 derivatives are supported yet. Moreover, the MSP-FET430UIF is currently the only supported debug interface (see full release notes on the DLLv3 Wiki page). We recommend applying the DLL to a separate CCS and/or IAR installation.

What is the MSP430.DLL?

The MSP430.DLL is the interface between the IDEs (e.g. IAR, Rowley, CCS and others) and the target device. It consists of a PC side application (the DLL, open) and firmware (closed) on the UIF or eZ430 USB interfaces. It handles all programming and debugging features of the MSP430 series of devices.

What's new in the DLLv3?

The version 3 DLL was redesigned from scratch and is written in an object orientated way. Besides Windows only releases, we provide the source code of the DLL. Moreover, the DLL was created in a platform independent manner; it may be build under other operating systems. This new version of the DLL provides faster device access and improved stability and error handling. The new DLL also uses a different USB protocol (CDC) and therefore requires an update of the MSP-FET430UIF interface.

For additional information, please visit the DLLv3 Wiki page.

The Beta 2 release includes support for all current MSP430 derivatives (see release notes on the DLLv3 Wiki page). The MSP-FET430UIF update is much more robust now, eZ430 and LPT interfaces are supported as well. In addition features were added and bugs were fixed.
