Grace Beta plugin w/ Open Source Eclipse IDE and MSPGCC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I am currently using the Eclipse open source IDE with MSPGCC.  I tried today to install the Grace beta plugin and ran into an issue.  I get an error message that Grace requires the following:

org.eclipse.rtsc.xdctools_3.21.feature.group 0.0.0

When I take a look at the XDTools download page:

http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/rtsc/index.html

The latest version there is 3.20.05.

Is it possible to download version 3.21 so that I can try to get Grace installed with my current IDE?

Yes.  After you select "Search for new features", make sure you _also_ check the "Target Content" box when looking for features.  This should find the beta release of XDCtools 3.21.  Select this release and let CCS download _both_ Grace and XDCtools 3.21.

The reason for not posting 3.21 at the normal XDCtools download page is because 3.21 is in beta until the Grace beta period is complete and, for now, we only want Grace users to install 3.21.

If CCS does not find the beta release of 3.21 using this approach, there may be a problem the update site.

Ooops, I didn't read your post carefully enough.  I'm guessing you are not using CCS 4.2?

If you are not using CCS 4.2, which is based on a much earlier release of the eclipse IDE, you may be out of luck.  We have _not_ tested Grace with more recent releases  of eclipse (e.g., Helios).  We are planning this for early next year.

What version of eclipse are you using?

  • Below is the info provided in the Eclipse help->about dialog.

    Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers

    Build id: 20100218-1602

     (c) Copyright Eclipse contributors and others 2000, 2009. All rights reserved.

When I launch Eclipse, it says Galileo.

    When I use this link

    http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/grace

I see the Grace 1.0.0.56-eng plugin, but when I try to install, i get the above message about SDCtools 3.21 dependancy.  Is there any way that the 3.21 beta could be made available so that I can give it a try?

  • I have CCS 4.2.1 but I cannot seem to find the "Target Content" check box when trying to install Grace so the update complains that XDCtools 3.21 is not installed.

Hummm, the update site for Target Content should be pre-installed as part of CCS 4.2.1.  It should show up _after_ you select  "Search for new features to install" and click Next.

If necessary, you can add it "by hand" by following the same instructions for adding the Grace update site (step 3 of  "To Install Grace" at http://www.ti.com/grace): click the "New Remote Site" button and use the following URL:

  • Ah great - thanks.  It definitely did not show up by itself but your details for the new remote site worked - am downloading now 8-)

  • Martin,

If you can attach a screen shot of your “Update Sites to Visit” page, perhaps we can figure out what went wrong.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • OK.....hopefully with some additional detail, someone can help figure out what problem I'm having.  This is what I see when I use the "add it by hand" method.

When I click Next, I get this dialog:

I click Launch, and I get this:

I select the "Search for new features to install" radio button.  Here is the next screen:

I click the "New Remote Site" button, and use this link:

http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/TargetContent/Updates/full/site.xml - I just name it RTSC, then click Finish.  I get the dialog shown below, and check boxes as shown.

    I see the dialog below:

I select the "accept" radio button and click Next.  I get this dialog:

I leave all of the default locations and click Finish.  I then get the error below:

Sorry for so many screen caps, but I thought this amount of detail may help.  Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Hi Brian,

At present the update site only supports Eclipse 3.2  - the eclipse platform on which CCS4.2 is based. In order to use Grace you need to install  CCS4.2 and use the update manager to get the XDCtools and Grace product releases. Eclipse 3.6 (the platform on which Galileo is based) uses a different update manager  which is not currently supported by us.

    Regards

    Amit
