SDHC vs. SDXC in OMAP4 OMAP4430

In the OMAP4 datasheet, there is this: "Full compliance with SD command/response sets as defined in the SD Specifications Part 1 Physical Layer Simplified Specification , v3.01, including high-capacity SDHC cards up to 32GB"

On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital, there is this: "In the 3.0 specification, the electronic interface of SDHC and SDXC cards is the same."

Does OMAP4 support SDXC hardware-wise? And why isn't it advertised? (BTW, it is advertised for OMAP5).

Thanks in advance for the answer,

Grégoire

  • Hello Gregoire,

Yes, you can use SDXC cards with OMAP4. . For SDXC memory type there are several card types (NON UHS-I, UHS50 and UHS104).

OMAP4430 does not support SDR104 speed bus mode. It means that you can use an UHS104 card type but not the SDR104 speed bus mode supported by this card type. Another important point is that our host controller is not fully compliant with SD Host Controller Standard Specification version 3.00. It does not prevent using UHS50 or UHS104 card types but it has an impact on software.
