OPA855: Is there an ADS model for OPA855?

Part Number: OPA855
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA380, OPA830, TINA-TI

Hi,

I found Pspice model for OPA855, when I import it into ADS software, it complete, but when I excute simulation, there's wrong message named "ADS syntax parser error in ADS netlist",

When I use the same steps to import OPA380 Pspice model, it works.

So there may be some syntax errors in OPA855 Pspice model, anyone can help?

Many THX!

  • Hello sshj,

The two PSPICE models you are referencing are quite different in design and capability.  The OPA830 model is an older model made by a central modelling group, likely with inter-compatibility with ADS considered.  The newer HSAMPs models are designed to best showcase the device in SPICE software, such as the OPA855 model.  If you examine both .lib files, you will see there are considerable structural differences.

I do not advise editing the SPICE lib file for OPA855 to get it to play with ADS; I would advise doing the analysis and simulation with PSPICE or TINA-TI to evaluate the part.  If you need to make a touchstone/S2P file to run a simulation in ADS, you can proceed to measure the s-parameters and do an analysis on your end with an EVM or your own board.

We do not have s-parameter data for the OPA855 or an existing touchstone/S2P file.

If you do elect to change or edit the official SPICE model for OPA855, know that there will not be a way to verify your syntax changes did not affect performance, and should not be used in place of the official online model to evaluate the part for use.

    Good luck with your investigation.

    Best,

    Alec

  • Hi, Alec,

I checked the .lib files of OPA830 and OPA855, yes, they are in totally different structures. I won't modify the .lib file since I'm not familiar with spice language.

The reason why I use ADS for simulation is that the OPA855 is as a small part of my design, if I want to evaluate the whole system performance in ADS, the OPA855 is necessary.

As your comments, it seems impossible to get the right OPA855 model for ADS.

However, I want to mention that, is the OPA855 a newer device that only with the HSAMPs model? Is there a previous spice version that made by the central modelling group?

    Thanks for your reply.

    Best,

    sshj.

  • Hello sshj,

That is correct; the OPA855 is the only HSAMPs model version we currently have and provide. If the error message provides a reason such as syntax error and which line, it might be possible to compare an example ADS specific netlist and adjust the syntax to comply with ADS. Unfortunately, we are unfamiliar with ADS language.

    Thank you,
    Sima

  • OK, thanks very much, Sima.
