    If it report unknown device, it means the computer recognize the the MSP-FET, but doesn't find the MSP430. I would assume your MSP430 is broken.

    Can you change a cable? It seems that CCS can recognize the MSP-FET, but the MSP-FET can't recognize the MSP430. I advise you to capture the wave of JTAG pin. Maybe the cap at reset pin is too large.
