It is not OK to exceed Abs Max specification on the inputs, even if it seems to work.
Please take a look at SN65LVDS93, while not exactly equivalent to SN65LVDS301, they may be able to work around the differences between the 2 devices.

We used TIs TFP401 which will convert HDMI to RGB and for RGB to LVDS we hace SN65LVDS93.
