XTR305: Ground differences

Part Number: XTR305

Hello Guys,

Good day.

What are the differences between GND1, GND2, GND3 and GND4?

Thanks and regards,

Art

  • Hi Art,

figure 40 shows what everything must be connected to GND1:

GND2 is the remote ground of the external load. GND4 is the digital ground. And GND3 is the ground of load resistor RIA.

  • Hi Art,

Kai covered it pretty well, thanks Kai. GND2 is your external load GND and GND4 is the digital logic GND. In certain configuration modes the Rimon resistor is shown to be grounded to GND3 instead of GND1, see Figures 35, 37, and 41. This is basically just reflecting that the IAOUT and IMON circuitry may interface with a different part of the circuit with a minor variation in GND potential or common-mode noise between those potentials. That said, while GND1 and GND2 can be different (note the datasheet spec for "Rejection of voltage difference between GND1 and GND2, RTO" as 130dB typical), GND1 and GND3 should ideally be close to each other.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

    Cheers,

    Jon
