THS7530: Use as combined VGA and ADC driver

Part Number: THS7530
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5296A,

Hi all,

I need to drive the ADS5296A (10b/12b) with signals from around 200kHz  up to 80 MHz through a VGA which is driven from single-ended source.

I will be using the ADC mainly in non-interleaved mode but maybe in the future go to interleaved.

Thought of the THS7530 with almost-DC coupled SE input and differential output.

The gain adjust of THS7530 is sufficient for me.

Is this is reasonable choice or is there a better alternative?

Thanks

David

  • Might be a little low on slew rate if you care about harmonic distortion. 80Mhz full scale to the ADC will be in the 500V/usec slew rate region for the signal, need a lot of margin from that in the device if  you want good HD.

There are quite a lot faster VGA's for the basestation market, but those are usually digital gain control.

  • Hello David,

Not too sure if your application can handle a bit lower on the max gain selection. But, here are more options considering your ADC choice and Michael's advice.

    Thanks,

    Sima
