LM393LV: max output current

Part Number: LM393LV

Hi Team,

Could you please give us more information about LM393LVDR device. I havent found information of max output current in datasheet, can you help me? I have examined datasheet for max. output current information but I haven't found. Currently I need the max. output current information for our customer.

Thank you so much.
Best regards,
Jonathan
  • Hello Jonathan,

The output behavior is well documented on page 12 in the current vs. output voltage graphs. I worked very hard on those! ;^)

The "maximum current" is determined by what your maximum VOL or VOH requirements are.

The output current is current limited and depends on the supply voltage. The current limit can be seen in the graphs where the curve sharply inflects up and "flat lines" at the supply voltage.

So if you know your supply voltage is 3.3V, and your current will be 10mA, looking at figure 6-8, the output saturation voltage (Vol) will be about 150mV (depending on temp).

If your maximum VOL requirement is 300mV, then looking at figure 6-8, the maximum current (over temp) should be about 15mA.

If the output is shorted to 3.3V, the current flowing out of the output (short circuit current) is about 50mA when hot - and it quickly will become hot (see fig. 6-10).

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for enlightining us and giving us detailed explanation on this maximum output current. I understand that the output current is current limited and depends on the supply voltage.

    Kind and best regads,

    Jonathan
