TLV4376: The maximum current of the clamping diode on the input pin.

Guru 10735 points
Part Number: TLV4376

Hi team,

When power is turned off, 15 mA over 0.5 V flows for 1 msec on the input pin.
The datasheet says up to 10mA, but if it is momentary, is there any problem?

Sincerely.
Kengo.

  • The maximum absolute ratings must not be exceeded, not even for a short time. (And 1 ms is not a short time.)

In general, this problem can be avoided with a series resistor in front of the input.

  • Hello Kengo,

Yes this can create a problem with system robustness over time even if the device appears to be ok initially. The device can be damaged over time if not immediately damaged. We have a series that discusses electrical overstress. In this series we discuss methods of protecting the device such as adding series input resistance, filtering, and TVS diodes. There is also guidance presented on choosing components to protect your circuit from these EOS events.

Here is a link to our series that contains the discussions on EOS.
