OPA656: How to identify "high grade" parts

Part Number: OPA656
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA814, OPA817, OPA818

I have a query about the OPA656 op-amp data sheet:

https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/opa656.pdf?HQS=dis-dk-null-digikeymode-dsf-pf-null-wwe&ts=1694683369276&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fgeneral%252Fdocs%252Fsuppproductinfo.tsp%253FdistId%253D10%2526gotoUrl%253Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Flit%252Fgpn%252Fopa656

Table 7.6 on page 7 refers to the “high grade” version of the part. However, I have no idea how to identify high grade parts from the device part numbers. i.e. what part number suffixes signify the high grade parts? In other words, which parts listed in the Packaging Information table on page 25 are “high grade” parts?

  • See section 9.1.3.5; it's the B suffix.

  • Thank you.

    This answers my question.

  • However, the high-grade part number OPA656UB appears to be obsolete now. The datasheet should therefore be updated accordingly.

  • All non-B variants and the tube carrier are being obsoleted. The OPA656UB/2K5 is active.

  • The OPA656B versions were introduced long ago with a 100% screen at final test for both offset and offset drift. Test really resisted that, but it ended up working very well - that guaranteed drift is much better than the new OPA814 drop in that will certainly not have that screen any more. not bad at 3.5uV vs the B grade 2uV, but they stopped putting test levels in the far right column, I would be assuming this is not tested.

  • Hi Michael, thanks for telling me about the OPA814 - Looks like a great device and a great upgrade. - I think I'll upgrade my design with this.

Are there any other high-performance op-amps in the pipeline?

  • Hi Ali,

We do have the OPA817 and OPA818 that have similar functionality to the OPA814 but are faster devices as other high-performance options. As for new devices, we have our high-speed amplifier webpage that gets updated with the most recent device releases. The bottom of the page is where we highlight our latest products and can be found here.

    Best Regards,

    Ignacio
