TLV1701-Q1: Need to know Slew rate of the TLV1701QDBVRQ1 component.

Part Number: TLV1701-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV1811-Q1, TLV1805-Q1

We have designed the non-inverting comparator using TLV1701QDBVRQ1 part. Our circuit need to give +/- 12V PWM output based on the input. We are seeing the slew rate issue in the actual board. For the same circuit we are seeing the good response in the simulation. So, we need to know the slew rate of the comparator IC TLV1701QDBVRQ1, whether it will work for the frequency of 1KHz or not.

  • To insert an image, you must use the "Insert"/"Image" menu at the bottom of the edit box.

The TLV1701-Q1 has an open-collector output, so the speed of rising edges depends on both the pull-up resistance and the load capacitance. To make it faster, use a smaller resistor. Alternatively, use a comparator with push/pull output, e.g., TLV1811-Q1 or TLV1805-Q1 (they have different pinouts).

  • Thank you Clemens.

    Madhan,

Thanks for reaching out. Some of the images were not able to be attached. Slew rate is a spec for amplifiers. For comparators, we have rise and fall times which are listed in the switching characteristics table of the datasheet.  But as Clemens mentioned, the rise time is due to the RC time constant of the pull-up resistor and load capacitance for an open-drain output. Fall time is due to the saturation resistance and capacitive load.

  • This issue is solved. By mistakenly we have mounted the capacitor at the output. It acted like a RC filter. Now our circuit is working fine.

    Thanks for the support.
