OPA541: Mechanical data of OPA541

Part Number: OPA541
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA549

Hi,

I am considering installing the operational amplifier OPA541 using the hole in the red frame in the figure below.
It will be installed using M3 screws, but I would appreciate it if you could tell me the tightening torque.

Thanks,

Conor

  • The flange is just a slab of metal, and the hole is not threaded. What torque to use depends on your screw/nut/washers.

  • Hey Conor,

I agree with Clemens answer. Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

  • Hi Conor,

Please use the following guideline for the OPA541, which it is in the same mounting package as OPA549.

There are many thermal conductive materials on the market today, and these materials have similar behavior as silicon pad in the old days. These materials have certain Shore Durometer ratings and so you need to watch out for not over-torqueing the thermal tab. From the past inquiries, I recall I was told 10-12 ft/lb for TO-220’s. After 10 is diminishing returns and the possibility of distorting the tab and cracking the epoxy...

Please go gently when you torque these screw. When you reached the target setting at the first time, say 8-10 ft/lb, then stop it. If you check the torque again, then the torque is changed again due to polymer nature of these materials.
