Hello experts,

I plan to use TL082CPS as a comparator.

[Supply voltage]

VCC=+12+5%

VEE=-12-5%

[Question]

What is the voltage (min/max) on the positive and negative sides of the output in this situation?

I read datasheet "6.12 Electrical Characteristics", it shows (min)Vom=±12V,（typ) ±13.5V ,at Vcc＝±15V, 25℃. So I want to know the situation at Vcc＝±12V(±5%), 25℃.

With a 12 V supply, the drive strength should be similar.

Figure 6-44 shows that the output voltage range depends mainly on the load.

I would strongly suggest the more modern TL082H, which is cheaper and has rail-to-rail outputs.

Could you explain this statement a little more specifically?

At the situation Vcc＝±12V(±5%), Vom will be like this?

Vom=±9V(±5%) (min), ±10.5V(±5%) (typ)

Yes; the voltage drop from the rails is 1.5 V typ, 3 V max.

Hello Susami-san,

Clemens is right. This device doesn't have what we call a rail to rail output, as a result, the output voltage can only get 1.5V from either of the supply rails.

If you are needing something with rail to rail output, we have a number of other devices that can do that. As Clemens mentioned the TL082H is a more modern part and doesn't have the same output swing limitations as the TL082.
