INA3221: Can I run at 24V?

Part Number: INA3221
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA4230, INA4235

Tool/software:

I'd like to monitor a 24V line.

Vbus is specified 0 - 26V. I would normally give some margin of error on the 26V. Is there some margin built in to the specs of the device so I can really run to 26V?

So is it safe to attach to a bus Voltage of 24V +-5% (22.8V - 25.2V)?

Thanks

Mark

  • Hello Mark,

The absolute max table shows 26 volts, so you'll want to make sure you don't go above that. 25.2V is fine though. That being said, I've seen some customers add voltage clamping diodes as extra protection just in case if they think they are getting too close to the threshold. One other option for you is that you could switch to one of our newer 4 channel devices, the INA4235 or INA4230. These devices have a maximum voltage spec of 48V, which would give you plenty of margin.

    Regards,
