AMC1311: internal ESD protection circuit

Part Number: AMC1311
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1302

Tool/software:

Hello  experts

hope this finds you well.

“9.3 What to do and What not to do” in the datasheet says “the input pin is protected against high voltages by its ESD protection circuit”.
Does the ESD protection built into this input pin have the ESD protection capability listed in “7.2 ESD Ratings”?

We find it not very clear. Did you write in any place about this IC's ESD protection circuit?

Regards,

Jieyu

  • Hi Jieyu,

Yes, this pertains to the ESD protection described. We do not include a section on this ESD protection circuit mentioned in the datasheet. What information are you looking for or what concern do you have for your project? Please let me know, thank you.

    Best regards,

    Eva

  • Hi Eva,

Thank you. I have 2 following questions.

    (1) how much ESD can the AMC1311 withstand when an ESD protection element is not connected to the input pin of the AMC1311?
What specific test standards do you support?

    (2) 「protection diodes」: do not connect to the input pin of the AMC1311.

Does "protection diodes" mean TVs diodes please?
For example, is it unlikely that the measurement accuracy will be affected if protected by a "clamp circuit using diodes" as shown in the following figure?

    Regards,

  • Hi Jieyu,

    1) It would still be what is listed in section 7.2 as the ESD protection circuit mentioned in 9.3 is internal.

    2) We still do not recommend putting diodes on the input pins of this device. What is the reason they want to include this? Is there error they are observing?

May I ask who is the customer?

    Best regards,
    Eva

  • Thank you Eva.

I will let you know the customer by direct message.

And I am wondering, AMC1302 data sheet does not state that the input pin should not be equipped with a protection diode.
Is it OK to use a clamping diode on the AMC1302 please?

    Regards,

    Jieyu Zhou

  • Hi Jieyu,

I will respond to your direct message. Closing this thread for now.

    Best regards,

    Eva
