INA228-Q1: Need to measure Microampere current

Part Number: INA228-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA228, INA238

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Could you please confirm whether it is possible to measure current in the microampere range using the INA228/INA238?

We need to measure current ranging from 0 to 500 microamperes.

If the INA228/INA238 is not suitable for this measurement range, kindly advise on alternative solutions.

Regards,

Virali Chhag

  • Hello Virali,

Yes, this is possible, depending on the size of shunt resistor you can use. The INA228 will be a better choice though. I recommend using our error tool to compare each device for your specific system parameters:

(Note, the x axis scale does not auto update, so you will want to change the axis to see the current range you are looking at)

When measuring this small of current, I recommend using a 10nF capacitor across the inputs of the device. Ideally a small size cap, placed close to the pins.

    Regards,

    Mitch
