I have a resistive linear position transductor (potenciometer) whose position I need to read from a remote station. I design a system using a constant current source (2 wires) to produce a constant voltage drop on the senor and then reading the voltage drop on the sensor and on the cursor (3 wires) using two instrumentation op amps (I selected the INA110) as shown on the figure. Then, I can calculate the position by dividing the two voltage values.
For the current source I read the very interesting application bulletin "Implementation and Applications of Current Sources and Current Receivers" [1] from where a choose this source using a very low temperature coefficient resistance (0.2ppm/C) of 3k35 to produce a current around 2.985mA (but I'm thinking on changing the obselete OPA111 with the OPA124).
So, my question is: do you think this is a good design? I'm choosing the right devices? Does anybody have any comment or suggestion to my design?
