Now we have one inquiry regarding absolute maximum ratings on OPA171 from our customer.

Please refer to the item below, and feedback us with your comment.

When referring ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM RATINGS on datasheet page 2, the Supply voltage is just defined as ±20 V.

Meanwhile, when referring ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM RATINGS on other OpAMP such as OPA170 or OPA172, this term is defined as ±20, +40 (single supply) V.

Since we would like to use OPA171 on single supply, please let us clarify whether you have any particular reason why +40 (single supply) is not defined.

    Any op amp may be used in dual, single, or asymmetric power supply configuration as long as the input common-mode and output voltages are assured not to violate the voltage ranges specified with respect to the rails.  For that reason, all op amps “see” only differential voltage as applied at the supply pins since there is no internal ground inside the op amps.  Therefore, the Absolute Maximum Rating for supply pin specified at 40V (single supply) is the same as +/20V (dual supply) or +35V/-5V (asymmetric), etc.  Therefore, OPA170, OPA171, and OPA172 can all be used in single supply application with the absolute maximum rated voltage of +40V, however, the maximum specified range (where max/min specs applied) is only 36V (+/-18V).
