As Collin mentioned we are not familiar with the microcontroller offerings of other companies. I did take a quick look at the data sheet for the micro you selected and found current drawn in active mode (depending on CPU frequency and temperature) from 2.2mA to 13.8mA. I assume this does not include the current from the GPIO or XRES (I really don't know what that is...I'm an analog guy). There seem to be other current specifications that may come into play as well (e.g. for the op amp in low power mode it consumes a typical current of 5mA). Ultimately my belief here is that the micro you selected consumes too much current. This is discussed in one of Collin's articles in the linked forum post above (Iret current must be <3.8mA). So, I suggest selecting an MSP430 as he originally suggested.
