LM101A (CDIP-8) alternative

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM101AJAN, LM101A-N

Hi all,

I am looking for an equivalent alternative to replace the old operational amplifier LM101AJ8 (CDIP package, 8 pins).

As option 1, I have found the LM101AJAN as best alternative. Orderable Device:

JL101ABPA or JM38510/10103BPA.

As option 2, I have found the LM101A-N. Orderable Device:

LM101AJ.

All of them are (ACTIVE) but with the ECO Plan status TBD.

The point is that it seems to be difficult to find those items in the common/famous distributors. They seem to be discontinued as well.

Do you have already an equivalent alternative? If so, please could indicate it?

Thank you in advance!

  • Greetings,

The older LM101 CDIP packages, due to their relatively lower volume, may not upgraded to RoHS.

TI/National has been replacing the leaded devices with RoHS versions with the "/NOPB" suffix. So the LM101AH (leaded) is also available as the LM101AH/NOPB (RoHS).

Some distributors (and manufacturers) are discontinuing the leaded versions due to dwindling demand due to RoHS compliance.

The LM101 is considered a "Military" device, and are often handled through different (specialized) distributors. A list of distributors is on the Hi Rel page:

    www.ti.com/.../overview.page

The LM101AJ and LM101AH are the two non hi rel devices (same temp range and general specs, but no alphabet-soup extended test pedigrees).

I do not see a "LM101AJ/NOPB" version in the system. So only the "Leaded' CDIP version is available. All the hi-rel devices are leaded.

The LM101 was originally released in the metal can package over 40 years ago...so most of the legacy designs use the metal can version.

Looking in the system, almost all the LM101 derivatives in CDIP are /883, high-rel or space grade - at 5-50x the cost of the "AJ".

Consider switching to the "H" metal can package of the LM101AH/NOPB. Same die, same specs, same price range. The pinout is the same and the metal can package can usually be fit into the DIP footprint if manually inserted (tab over pin 8). This version should be easily obtainable from "popular" distributors.

The LM201A and LM301A-N are the commercial and consumer temp range versions. Same die, but tested differently.
