ONET8501PB: Input Equalization on ONET8501PB?

Part Number: ONET8501PB
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ONET1151P

Hi,

I'm comparing ONET8501PB and ONET1151P. I saw below statement for ONET1151P, so ONET8501PB does not have this register? Is this the main difference between these two parts?

These parts look like similar, could you make a brief comparison?

Thanks.

  • Hi Wang,

Yes, you are right that the ONET1151P offers some amount of input equalization depending upon the input signal level using register 7; whereas the ONET8501PB does not. The other differences are:

    1. The ONET8501PB is a rate-selectable limiting amplifier, where the small-signal bandwidth can be adjusted using the RATE0 and RATE1 pins. This feature is not available in the ONET1151P.

    2. The ONET1151P offers Loss of Signal (LOS) masking time feature, where it is possible to mask a false input to the limiting amplifier after the loss of signal is detected. The masking time is settable in the duration from 10 us to 2 ms. You don't find this feature in the ONET8501PB.

    3. The ONET8501PB offers a 2-bit output level adjustment whereas it is 3-bit for the ONET1151P. So, if you are looking for finer output level adjustment, the ONET1151P would be a good device to consider.

Rest of the specifications for the ONET8501PB and ONET1151P are very similar in terms of supporting 11.3-Gbps data rates.

    Best Regards,

    Rohit
