LMP8640HV: output current capability

Part Number: LMP8640HV
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240, LMP8603

hi,

what is the output (VOUT) pin current capability (min/max/typ) in source mode at 2.7V supply?

do we have characterization data over temperature?

the full p/n is LMP8640HVMKE-F/NOPB, just in case

thanks a lot in advance

KR

Vincenzo

  • Hi Vincenzo,

We don't have test data for the output current, but we can set it up in the lab and do a couple measurements to check the pin impedance.

Could you please let us know a bit more about your application requirements, so that we can better replicate those?

  • hi Carlos,

    thanks for the prompt reply.

at the moment I have no many details.
Application is HS current sense for militar equip.
The output of the LMP is feeding (via a small 10Ohm-10pF LP filter) the input of an ADC embedded into the FPGA they are using.
What we know is only the input impedance of the ADC that is 2KOhm.
Customer is evaluating the worst case scenario (minimum output current of the LMP) at 2.7V supply.
Characterization over temperature is not required but if the current massively changes vs temperature then I would consider it; if not then point the worst case scenario.

    thanks a lot in advance

  • Hi Vincenzo,

Thank you for providing additional details.

If you give me a few days I can order and test this device on the lab, but please have in note, the obtained values may differ slightly in other production devices.

Most of our newer devices spec the voltage drop versus current versus temperature as a graph in the datasheet. For example, for the INA240:

The LMP8603 is the closest I could find that actually specs the short circuit current at 3V3. This device has an output buffer and it is, therefore, capable to drive large loads.

  • hi Carlos,

    absolutely, take your time...

please note that this is not blocking the project development, but the info is needed from customer to show his client that the design is robust enough...

that's why he need the output current capability spreads (min/typ/max)

    thanks a lot, really appreciate

  • Hi Vincenzo.

We're still looking into this for you. Thank you for your patience.

  • thanks a lot Carlos,

    I really appreciate it

  • Hi Vincenzo,

I did a DC test on the part and the output impedance for a 2KOhm or larger load should not pose problems.
Do note however this is under a DC condition, with a resistive output load.

With Vin = 3.3V and Vout = 2.5V the part is able to supply 10mA under short circuit. This increases to 12mA with Vin = 5V.

If these values are OK I can proceed to characterize the part with temperature. Please advise.
