My customer has the following request:

Can you get me any thermal resistance numbers for THS3115IPWP? In particular, is there a theta jc bottom? Only theta ja is in the datasheet.

Hi Aaron,

usually, the specification of Rjc for a chip in plastic case makes not much sense, because you cannot use the bottom for cooling. Even the mounting of a heat sink would only marginally improve the cooling. Or by other words, the most heat is dissipated through the pins of package and the layout of PCB, which plays the role of a heat sink.

Hi Kai,

The THS3115 HTSSOP package does come with a Power Pad which makes cooling from the bottom easier for the part. This is different from the chips in plastic case parts where the heat is dissipated through the package pins.

Let me check and see if we have the theta-jc bottom value already available for the THS3115 HTSSOP package. If not, then I will need to request it from the thermal modeling team. I will keep you updated.
