TL026: TL026: AGC from DC ?

Part Number: TL026
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM13700

We need an amplifier with AGC from  DC to low frequencies (bandwidth is not relevant) for a constant  output level from a power detection circuit .

I have seen the TL026 is a VGA amplifier and I wonder if it could be a good candidate.  Is it?

Otherwise we appreciate very much you to recommend the best part or alternative solution.

  • Hi Victor,

I would give the LM13700 a try. Have a look at figure 25 of datasheet.

  • Victor,

From a theoretical point of view, AGC on a DC input produces a constant. The AC will be attenuated by the DC value and the DC value will be lost. Not truly lost, as a the AGC control level will contain it. Another option is a log amp to compress a wide range signal without lag from AGC control. I do agree with Kai's LM13700 suggestion if AGC is needed.

Is the goal to detect power in a circuit or measure it?
Can you describe the range of the input signal and desired output signal?
