AMC1300: AMC1300 has Single Protection in UL1577

Part Number: AMC1300

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask UL1577?

AMC1300 has Single Protection in UL1577.

There is the description the difference between Single Protection and Double Protection in UL1577 on following E2E forum.
https://e2e.ti.com/support/isolation/f/1013/t/551859
We are sorry that we undertand basically.

Why does AMC1300 certify Single Protection in UL1577?
Is it impossible to certify Double Protection in UL1577? Or, is it for high Vrms?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello Matsumoto-san,

Part of the 'double isolation' for UL 1577 has to do with the way opto couplers are made.  More often than not, the actual LED and receiver are encased in a silicon 'bubble' inside the package.  The final mold compound placed around this silicon bubble and the lead frame is what forms the 'double isolation' criteria that UL 1577 refers to.  There are two physical (i.e. 'double') isolation barriers.  When UL tests for double isolation, they go through the surface of the package.  Our AMC1300 would technically have double isolation from one side to the other, but not through the package surfaces, so they are listed as single isolation.
