Hi,

Does OPA196 have the function of power on reset(POR) such as OPA4197 ?

    Kato-san,

    The OPA196 does design incorporate power on reset (POR). However, it is designed such that the POR keeps the output in a low state during power up. Once the minimum supply levels are reached the output resumes normal operation.

    Thank you for your prompt reply.

    I would like to confirm just in case, so is my understanding correct that OPA196 forces to keep the output in a low state not Hi-Z during power-up and power-off?
    Additionally, could you please tell me the threshold voltage of POR?

    By the way, please let me know if there are any similar products of OPA196 that doesn't have POR.

    Kato-san,

    The OPA196 does employ a POR circuit design that provides a weak pull down to V- during power up. If V- is 0 V, then that is the voltage the output will pull closely to. If a low resistance path to a source is present during power up the weak pull down will be overcome by it. I do not have any information regarding the POR threshold voltage. I believe that is proprietary product design information that we wouldn't be able to share.

    Regarding the OPA19x family they all have some kind of POR as we have discussed. POR is considered a modern, desirable feature in op amps and other linear ICs. Just about all the TI precision op amps that came before the OPA19x family don't have POR. If you have a good idea of the op amp specifications that your application requires, then we should be able to identify another precision op amp that meets the needs. However, note that the OPA19x family has great specifications overall so they are difficult to replace!
