INA4180: Driver issue

Part Number: INA4180
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA2181

Hi,

Can the INA4180 support high-side and low-side current sensing at the same time?

Thanks.

Kevin Xiong

  • Hi Kevin,

    can you show a schematic?

  • Kevin,

Yes, the INA4180 should be able to perform low-side and high-side sensing in the same application. The common mode voltages on each channel operate independent of each other, so one may be close to ground, while another may be close to supply. Ensure that you do not violate the -0.2V to 26V range to ensure proper operation of the device. A great example of this is how the INA2181 is used here for leakage monitoring. Check out figure 4 of the linked document.

While not coupled specifically to differing common modes, an issue to be aware of is the potential for crosstalk. Figure 38 of the datasheet shows the performance of channel 1 on channel 2, and vice versa.
