INA169: better resolution than INA260?

Good day.

Our customer is using INA260 in measuring the current, voltage and power using Adafruit on the link below using their sample code ina260_simpletest.py However he's sample current measurements are 112.50mA, 52.50mA, -1.25mA, 53.75mA. As you can see, it always end with .50, .75, .25 or .00mA.

He wanted to know if INA169 will be appropriate for this application and will have better resolution than the 0.25mA step size he is getting with INA260?

  • Hello Art,

    For most or our current sense amplifier that allow the input go above VSupply you will need to consider the input bias currents as well.  You will also need to consider the Vos for the device to look at the error.  At low input voltage VOS dominates and becomes the majority of the error contribution.  You can see the error calculations on the INA260 and INA169 product pages at the very bottom of the page.

    Some devices like the INA190 have very low input bias current and very low VOS but have a limitation on bandwidth and the VCM can go upto 40V.  If you require a digital part you can see the INA228-Q1 or INA229-Q1, both these device are curretnly as samples only and not released but it has low input bias current and can go higher in voltage.
