INA381: Differential input range and reset function

Guru 16770 points

Hi

I have question for INA381.

1.

The recommended differential input range is not specified in datasheet.

http://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/ds/symlink/ina381.pdf

Does it have this spec?

I will make the device generate alert at 1A current using 50mohm resistor.

2.

Does the shutting down Vs also reset device instead of toggling RESET pin?

For example, is connecting RESET to VS acceptable?

3.

Is Table 3 in datasheet not applicable to INA381?

BestRegards

  • Hello,

Thank you for using the TI forum.  To answer your questions:

    1. The recommended differential input range for a linear response is: Vs – SwingToRail ≥ gain×Vsense. To learn more about how to use the SwingToRail specification, see https://e2e.ti.com/support/amplifiers/current-shunt-monitors/w/faq/3579.understanding-swing-to-rail-specifications.   The absolute maximum differential input range can be seen it section 6.1 as shown below.  Also, more information about the common mode voltage range can be seen in sections 6.3 and 6.5 as also shown below.

    2. Shutting down VS and RESET should work because the device has no internal memory.  Connecting VS to RESET is also fine as long as you want to be in Latch Mode as shown in Table 1 and Figure 3 (below). Also, the layout example is section 10.2 below shows an example of connecting the RESET pin to VS through a resistor.

    3. Table 3 is applicable to the INA381, as there is an input resistance.  Figure 48 of the INA181 datasheet shows how these resistors are positioned.  Section 7.4.1 of the INA381 datasheet explains how this resistance can be used to calculate the Gain Error Factor.

  • Hi Mitch

Thank you for your prompt reply.

    I understood.
