INA219: INA219 vs INA3221

Hi Team,

I work on a new board – POWER MNG BOARD.

12 output powers with:

  1. 1 x 0.7V @ 20A
  2. 2 x 1.8V @ 12A
  3. 3 x 3.3V @ 6A
  4. 3 x 3.3V @ 3A
  5. 3 x 0.9V @ 5A

I would like to measure the current and the voltage of every output power.

 

I would like to use INA219 or INA3221, but they really confuse me (I’m not sure witch of them is with high accuracy)

As I understand from the datasheet:

INA219:

  1. ADC of 12bit
  2. 1 chanel  
  3. Current measurement error =0.2% to 0.3%
  4. Bus voltage measurement error = 0.2% to 0.5%
  5. Full-scale current sense (input) voltage = +-320mV
  6.  

INA3221:

  1. ADC of 13bit
  2. 3 chaneles
  3. Current measurement error = ???
  4. Shunt voltage gain error= 0.1% to 0.25%
  5. Bus voltage gain error = 0.1% to 0.25%
  6. Full-scale current sense (input) voltage = +-163.8mV

 

It’s seems that INA3221 better than INA219 if I will use with lower shunt resistor then INA219 ( half of the full scale current sense).

In my application I would like to measure the current with highest accuracy, which product from TI can let me the best accuracy? Which of them is recommended?

    The INA219 and INA3221 are both accurate devices. In addition to these are the INA231, INA226, and INA233.

    The INA233 has a 16-bit ADC and sense voltage input from -81.9mV to 81.9mV, so a small sense resistor (Rshunt) can be used. This device will yield the highest accuracy although the INA3221 is practical for your application since it has three current sense monitors in a single package.
