THS3217: Filter to prevent oscillation

Hi Team,

My customer has a question on the THS3217. To prevent oscillation (looking at figure 25 in section 7.11 on page 15), we can set the gain to about 5 or add a small filter to lower gain setting.

Do you have a recommendation of the type of filter for this current feedback amplifier?

Hi Mitchell,

The part wont generally oscillate at the lower gain settings, it just has some peaking in the frequency response. As for filtering, you can generally use any type of passive filter you'd like. Typically we'd just suggest a low-pass filter with the cutoff set near your maximum frequency.

kind of a weird question. You can generally tune phase margin on CFA device by adjusting the feedback resistor value. Sort of a seperate issue from filtering.
