INA213: is it safe if terminal current is limit below 5mA?

Part Number: INA213

Hi

in INA213BIDCKR datasheet, in comments (3), does it mean that is it safe if terminal current is limit below 5mA?

customer see a little higher negative voltage on IN- pin than datasheet spec? is there any risk to damage if customer limit current below 5mA?

thanks.

  • Hello Max,

Yes you can exceed the absolute max voltage by limiting the input current to below 5mA.  However that may come at a cost.  Typically once the absolute max voltage is exceeded an internal diode will turn on to dump as much current as needed to pull the voltage down, which is good for an ESD event, but not for a normal operating voltage.  If your customer tries to simply limit the current with the resistor, I suspect they will increase the gain error.  How much is your customer exceeding the negative voltage by?
