OPA454: Power Opamp for Pulse Amplifier

Part Number: OPA454

Hi Team,

We would like to request for your suggestion for a pulse amplifier for electrical nerve stimulation with the following specifications.

1. High voltage and high output current amplifier

2. Supply Voltage >40V - 100V

3. output current > 50mA to 200mA

4. Low operating frequency of 5Hz to 100Hz

5. Single supply

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

applied to the living human body?? The supply voltage would be way too high for this.

    Kai

  • Hello Danilo,

I'll assume for the moment that the end customer isn't going to be applying this level of voltage and current capability directly to a patient as Kai questioned as well. Therefore, we'll approach this purely from an electrical circuit application only.

The only TI Precision Op amp that is capable of that 40 to 100 V supply voltage range and provide the minimum current of 50 mA is the OPA454. If the output current must be higher, than a different design approach must be taken. Do realize that all of the TI higher voltage power op amps are not rail-to-rail input and output. Therefore, the use of a single polarity supply places limits how close the op amp inputs and output can swing to ground, or the positive supply rail.

If the output does not have to be ground referenced, but can be a differential that opens up opportunities to use a bridged-T configuration. Then, some of our 60 to 80 V supply power op amps cold be used. Please confirm what kind of output connection is needed. Additionally, is +40 V a viable supply solution, or must the circuit be usable all the way up to +100 V?

    Regards, Thomas

  • Hi Kai and Thomas,

I will clarify with the customer regarding their applications. Thank you for your response to this inquiry.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Single supply +40V can be used in rail to rail configuration.

Our experiment involves varying the output from 20 to 40V, current varying from 20mA to minimum 80mA alongwith variation in frequency from 5 to 100 Hz.

Output is not isolated from ground.

    Thanking you in advance,

    Manan

  • Hi Manan,

    are you the customer?

    Kai

  • Hi Manan,

can you show a schematic or drawing?

    Kai

  • Hi Manan,

We haven't heard from you in a while. We hope the issue was resolved. I am going to close thing thread now, please reply to reopen if you have any additional questions / information.
