PCM4104: unused terminal configuration in software mode

Part Number: PCM4104

Hello Experts,

My customer has question as follows. Would you answer it, please?
[question]
1. In software mode, FS1, FS0, FMT2, FMT1, FMT0, DEM1, DEM0 terminals can be left open, is my understanding correct?
2. Regarding soft mute function, there are two way, MUTE(pin 10) terminal control and Control Register 5 control. Which soft mute control way have a priority? while PCM4104 is muting by control register 5, accidentally control MUTE-pin(10pin), how PCM4104 will behave?

Best Regards,
Fujiwara

  • Hello Fujiwara, yes, the digital inputs can be left open when in SW mode.

Regarding the MUTE pin, datasheet states: "The MUTE input (pin 10) may be used in either the Standalone or Software modes to simultaneously mute the four output channels." So Mute pin overwrites it even in software more.

    Regards,

    Arash

  • Hi Arash,

Let me confirm for MUTE function.

    - If MUTE-pin(pin 10) is low(soft MUTE is disabled), software MUTE can be enable/disable by control register 5.
    - If MUTE-pin(pin 10) is high(soft MUTE is enabled), software MUTE cannot be enable/disable by control register 5.

    Is my understanding correct?

    Best Regards,
    Fujiwara

  • Hi Fujiwara-san,

Yes that is correct. If the MUTE-pin is high, then software MUTE will have no effect until MUTE-pin is low.

    Best regards,
    Jeff McPherson
