TPA3255: Protection

Part Number: TPA3255

Hi Experts,

I just wanted to have confirmation if my understanding of the TPA3255 protection features is correct.

I saw section 9.4.1.3. The amplifier protects the loudspeaker due to an accidental connection to the ground of one loudspeaker lead. However, does the output stage on the amplifier fail-safe in the event of output device failure? Such as possible failure of the output transistors thereby applying a fatal DC voltage to the loudspeaker.

I saw global fault shutdown protection on the device. My understanding is that this will cover it. Am I understanding this correctly? Or is a loudspeaker protection circuit advisable to cater to this possibility?

In addition, I saw this E2E post:
TPA3255: Speaker DC Protection in TPA3255 - Audio forum - Audio - TI E2E support forums

With the above conclusion of the customer in the E2E post above, it seems that he will continue to use the relay to be 100% safe for all possible failure modes of the TPA chip that might damage the speakers.

Please help confirm.

Best regards,
Gerald
