PCM5142EVM-U: No I2S output with USB input

Part Number: PCM5142EVM-U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SRC4392, PCM5141, PCM5142

Hi team,

I am testing PCM5142EVM-U for customer. I used USB input because I don't have SPDIF source in our lab.

I configured EVM based on this thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/audio-group/audio/f/audio-forum/399753/split-pcm5141-96k-not-working?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=PCM5141%2096K#

And I used Audacity as audio source. Headers are placed as below:

When I play an audio signal(1kHz Tone), I can't get SDIN signal(BCLK and WCLK were normal) in the output of TAS1020B and no signal on the SRC4392 I2S output.

If the configuration don't support USB input? Any other possibilities?

  • Hi Kian,

I tested the EVM in 2 different methods :

With  optical cable ( with AP)  and then with USB with Audacity as you wanted.

In both cases i can see the output and Din as well as BCLK and LRCLK clocks.

Just follow the diagram on the GUI for the jumpers, then load the following script (PCM5141_SRC_96k) and click EXECUTE .

you should see the output coming up on the scope along with  all clks and Din.

I also created  the register dump for you, in case you want to check it against your file.

  • Hi Arash,

    Thanks for confirming the configuration.

I got EVM works but I must disconnected GUI and re-connected GUI to make it works.

I loaded the script you provided and executed(showed 'executing finished'), also no DIN output.

Then I disconnected GUI and re-connected GUI to execute init cfg file, it worked, I got SDIN signal at SRC4392 output and audio signal at PCM5142 output. I don't know why your EVM can run PCM5141_SRC_96k well. I will compare init cfg and SRC_96k cfg later.

I have two EVM boards and another one can't replicate my operation on the previous one. When I play audio from Audacity, the sounds came out from PC speakers. I can make sure the speakers was choose as USB-Audio EVM. If this is a USB driver issue?

  • Hi Kian,

In my several tests that I did yesterday , Couple of times I had to disconnect the GUI and connect it back too( which  power cycles or resets the board). That is no issue but if your computer doesn't recognize the EVM it is a problem.  On the speaker icon, once you hover the mouse on it , it should reflect the name of the board TI_Audio USB or something like that ( should not say Speaker.  Go to device manager and under audio device or HID and see if TI_Audio device  exist there , sometimes you have to uninstall  and unplug it and then plug it back.
