I have asked a similar question about PCM5122 and got a similar answer (which i was not satisfied with)

This table is from PCM510x datasheet and accordingly, 6.144M clock is not supported for 96KHZ sampling frequency. Is this also valid for PCM512x as well?

Hello Gokhan,

The datasheet for both devices indicate the valid system clock for sampling frequency of 96KHz is ranging from 128fs to 512fs- but not 64xfs nor anything beyond 512xfs. The device uses system clock to auto-configure the clock tree and PLL and some other internal modules and it needs at least 128fs for this sampling rate. So according to DS, device needs at least 12.288MHz SCK in order to do it correctly.

I believe these families of devices use the same core and thus some similarity in specs or limitation will be common to both family of devices.
