TPA3116D2: RC time constant

Part Number: TPA3116D2

Tool/software:

Hello,

In the Audio input section the gain =36dB, input impedance =9k ohm and Ci (input cap) = 1uF (for a flat bass)

as per datasheet  7.3.7, RC time constant should be 1ms or lesser to avoid POP sound
where as
T=R*C ; t= 9k * 1uF which will be 9mili second
how do we make it lesser to reduce POP sound?

  • Hello,

    You can reduce the input capacitance to 0.1 uF, but note that this will increase your cut off frequency. This is the trade off that you should consider when selecting input cap values.

  • Hello Sydney Northcutt,

    Thanks for your response,
    So there is no way to get Flat base with RC time constant less than 1ms

    Thanks and regards
    Adithya

  • Hi Adithya,

    Overall yes, but what I recommend doing is keeping the recommended input capacitance of 10 uF while testing. Not every application will have pops and clicks so if you immediately reduce the input capacitance you may be filtering our low frequency signal for no benefit. If you have pops and clicks when testing, you can reduce the capacitance to find the acceptable tradeoff for your application.
